The Oyster is a special member of the bivalve family, known for being able to filter up to 50 gallons of water a day. Long Island used to be known for its natural oyster reefs, but due to pollution, overharvesting, and climate change our Island’s natural oyster population has dwindled. As a result, we have seen a significant decline in the water quality of our bays. In an effort to bring back Long Island’s natural oyster reefs, Relic partners with the Moriches Bay Project, a non-profit organization devoted to restoring our local water quality.
With the purchase of this tee, 5 oysters will be planted back into our local waters. All oyster planting is facilitated through The Moriches Bay Project.
